. . . . . time for an Analepsis bringing you back to the songs of the that were cool. OK, maybe they were not totally cool, but what is important is that you thought you were cool listening to these songs. Each song below cut a permanent niche into music history.

Gary Numan - Cars
Devo - Whip It
Falco - Der Kommissar

80s Analepsis: A Flock of Seagulls

A Flock of Seagulls
. . . . . time for an Analepsis bringing you back to the start of the and the start of new wave hair. Out of Liverpool, set the trend for ridiculous haircuts that burned its image in our brains as we had to keep seeing the dew in many 80’s movies, bands, and up through shows like Friends and movies like Pulp Fiction.

Enjoy our analepsis back to “I Ran (So Far Away)” by :

Killing Joke . . . livin’ in the Eighties

Posted under Indie / Alternative / Pop, Uncategorized by oZriic on Thursday 31 January 2008 at 6:55 pm

Killing Joke
Before , , , etc. there was . Classified as an ‘English post-rock punk band’ (ya I am not sure what that means either), this band is always an in your face, raw sounding, punk rock band.

I used to listen to their song “Eighties” over and over as it was the first song on one of my skate-ratt mix tapes when I was growing up (yes in the 80’s). I recorded it off of a pretty cool indie local university radio station. Check out their myspace page below for some more current songs.

Honeycut - More than a Squeeze Shadow

Posted under Indie / Alternative / Pop by oZriic on Wednesday 3 October 2007 at 9:33 pm

Honeycut
I have never seen the comparison, but to me sounds just like the supercool 80’s band Squeeze (”Tempted”, “Black Coffee in Bed”, and “Pulling Mussels (From The Shell)”). It’s all about laid back funk that makes you feel like you should be wearing your shades and holding a nice glass of irish wiskey (on the rocks w/ a slight twist).

has been described as a funky modern soul. They are a three piece band that includes live strings and horns. I love their sound.

Take a listen to SHADOWS by to see for youself.

The Dears - not The Smiths

Posted under Indie / Alternative / Pop by oZriic on Tuesday 4 September 2007 at 3:51 pm

The Dears
The first time I heard “Lost in the Plot” by The Dears, I was almost certain they were doing a cover of something from The Smiths that I had heard back in the 80’s. After several Google searches, I was baffled. It turns out that can sound a lot like at times. Yes, I am sure you have heard the “Smiths” comparison of before, but the similarity of frontman vocals to with is too close to ignore.

Either way, play some good dramatic rock songs with vocals that are very easy on the ears.

Check out their song Lost in the Plot off of the “No Cities Left” album:
